The information in the attached
spreadsheet was obtained from the nineteenth and early twentieth century archives of the two South Australian Lunatic Asylums (Adelaide and Parkside). The archives are held by the State
Records of South Australia. (see https://archives.sa.gov.au/content/our-catalogue). The original books were searched for information
about people affected by epilepsy. These records were photographed and the
information extracted into an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet includes a data dictionary explaining each of the fields. The information was used as source material for a Master’s thesis "EPILEPSY IN THE LUNATIC ASYLUMS OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA (1852 – 1913)". Ethics approval to use the information appropriately
was obtained from the University of Adelaide HREC (H-2016-069). For privacy
purposes the patients’ surnames are not listed in the spreadsheet.
