Data from a comparison of three commercial seeders on a wheat tillage trial at Hart, SA. Crop establishment and interplant distance were measured on each of the three seeders: a disc seeder, no-till seeder and strategic seeding.

Files:Seeder comparison wheat.xlsx

Experiment setup:The Hart tillage experiment was managed by the Hart Field-Site Group, and set up as a split plot design with the seeder as the whole plot treatment (disc seeder, no-till seeder, and strategic seeder), and nutrition as a subplot treatment (Medium vs High), with 3 replicates and 18 plots total.

Variables recorded:plant establishment (plants/m2), interplant distance (cm), seedling depth (mm)

Data collection and assessment:Measurements were made on individual types and row from the Hart tillage trial, with plant establishment and interplant distance measured on individual rows and linked to the sowing tyne by row and rank. Seedling depth data was recorded for the medium-nutrition plots in replicate 1 only, averaged across 5 measurements.
