One of the most influential composition teachers of the twentieth century, Andre Gedalge's students included Ravel, Milhaud, Honneger and Nadia Boulanger. The violin sonata was written for his pupil, violnist and composer George Enescu with this project only the second recording of the sonata since its composition in 1897. This recording highlights Enescu's unique playing characteristics, a revealing insight into the emerging artistry of a sixteen year destined to become one of the great musicians of the twentieth century, as seen through the eyes of one of the period's most significant teachers.
